The SR-71's design speed is 3.2 Mach, or 3.2 times the speed of sound, which translates roughly into 2,200-2,300 miles per hour.

Arial
The leading edge of the wing is sharp, and the wing is thin and short, making its presentation to the air very small, creating less pressure drag.

These characteristics make the wing perform poorly at low speeds; the stall speed of the SR-71 is high, as are its takeoff and landing speeds.

The airframe of the SR-71 is composed almost entirely of titanium and titanium alloys.
The amount of heat generated by sustained flight at Mach 3 causes skin temperatures to exceed 600
A large fuel load in the wing tanks helps cool the SR-71's airframe.

Arial
The SR-71 is powered by two Pratt and Whitney J-58 turbojets with afterburners, that create 32,500 pounds of thrust apiece.
Arial
Less than 20% of the total thrust used to fly at Mach 3 is produced by combustion.
Arial
The rest of the required thrust comes from the special design of the engine inlets and moveable spikes in front of the nacelles, and ejector nozzles at the exhaust end that burn air compressed in the engine's bypass system.

When your instructor teaches you a maneuver, they'll show it to you, and then let you try it. At that point, you're going to exchange control of the airplane. To help make sure there's no confusion, you should always pass control in a way that's easy to understand.
